Another vaccine of Covid-19 may come soon, Indian pharma company Wockhardt made a deal

Indian pharma company Wockhardt is set to announce a major production deal for an unknown Covid-19 vaccine. According to a report, Wockhardt Chairman Dr. Abel Khorakiwala said during an exclusive interview that the formal announcement regarding this unknown vaccine is due in two weeks and the production of the vaccine will start in October. He said the company would be able to manufacture 50 crore doses annually.

On the availability of the vaccine, the Wockhardt chairman says that our arrangement is as a contract manufacturer with the principal innovator of the vaccine. We will supply it to them and they will introduce it in India. They will also decide its price.

This deal may prove to be important amid the shortage of vaccine

At present, there is a shortage of Covid-19 vaccines across the country. In such a situation, this deal of Wockhardt can prove to be important. Experts have repeatedly stressed that the only way to avoid a third wave of the coronavirus is to accelerate vaccination. The country has so far vaccinated more than 3 percent of the population, and needs about 2.5 billion vaccine doses. Apart from this, vaccination of children also needs to be done at the earliest because many people say that children will be the main target in the third wave of Covid-19.

There are currently three Covid-19 vaccines in India

There are currently three vaccines for coronavirus available in India. One of these is the Covishield of the Serum Institute (SII). The remaining two vaccines are Bharat Biotech’s indigenously developed Covaxin and Russia’s Sputnik V. Apart from this, the government has booked 300 million doses of a new Covid vaccine from Biological-E, Hyderabad. This vaccine is currently in the third phase of clinical trials, although the vaccine has performed well in the first two phases. The Biological-E vaccine will be the second vaccine developed in India.
