Cabinet: Agreement with L&T for three training ships for Rs 3100 crore, cabinet approved.

The Union Cabinet approved the signing of contract with L&T for three Cadet Training Ships (Cships) worth over Rs 3,100 crore under the Procurement (Indian-IDDM) category. Delivery of the ships is scheduled to begin in 2026. The deal was approved under the Indian-IDDM (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) procurement category.


The ships will be used to impart training at sea to officer cadets, including women, after completing their basic training to meet the future requirements of the Navy. Along with this, with the aim of strengthening diplomatic relations, these ships will also provide training to cadets of friendly countries. The ships can also be deployed for evacuation and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.


The ships will be completely indigenous and will be built at L&T’s shipyard in Kattupalli, Chennai. The project will generate employment of 22.5 lakh man-days over a period of four and a half years.


Air Force aircraft C-17 Globemaster-3 involved in Indo-Japan military exercise


Indian Air Force transport aircraft C-17 Globemaster-3 is participating in the joint Indo-Japanese military exercise. The military exercise ‘Shinyu Maitri’ organized in Japan will run from March 1 to 2. According to an official statement, the Indian Air Force is participating in the exercise along with the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF). The exercise is being conducted on the sidelines of the India-Japan joint military exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’, which is being held at Komatsu, Japan from February 13, 2023 to March 2, 2023.
