Singapore: ‘Verification of educational qualification of employees will be necessary’, instructions to companies providing jobs.

Companies hiring foreign nationals in Singapore on the basis of Employment Pass (EP) will have to verify their educational qualification from September. This information has been given in media reports by quoting the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) of Singapore. It states that Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has stated that Singapore companies seeking to employ foreign nationals on Employment Pass (EP) must ensure that their educational qualifications are authentic.


According to the information received, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) of Singapore has issued this instruction after the news came to the fore, in which it was being said that an Indian university was selling fake degrees to the people and on the basis of its degree, people were going to Singapore. I was working in Earlier, in 2021, Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MoM) screened 23 foreigners who graduated from Manav Bharti University in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Two were jailed for providing false information in their Employment Pass (EP) applications, while 19 were permanently banned from working in Singapore.


Reports quoted Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MoM) as saying that the hiring company will be required to submit third-party verification proof in respect of qualifications of applicants at diploma level and above. In this regard, Manpower Minister Tan Si Leng said in Parliament on Wednesday that today employers are already responsible for ensuring the authenticity of their candidate’s qualifications before recruitment.


Reports say that an investigation into the matter was launched in Singapore after MOM was alerted that the Indian government was investigating the university for selling fake degrees. These also state that the verification requirement will be implemented through the Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPAS). It was announced last year. It has been made applicable for new applications in September this year. Under COMPASS, an EP application will be awarded marks based on four attributes and two bonus criteria. A minimum of 40 marks is required to pass the application.
