Byju’s Layoffs: Byju lays off 500 employees; Information is being given over phone without notice period

Troubled edtech company Byju’s has laid off around 500 employees. The company has made large-scale layoffs in the sales and marketing team.

According to media reports, Byju has started layoffs over phone calls and is asking employees to leave without putting them on Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). Reports have claimed that the company is not even asking employees to work during the notice period.

According to sources, the number of employees affected in this new round of Byju’s layoffs could be between 100 to 500. The company’s sales department may be most affected due to layoffs. The company has not yet responded to the news of layoffs.

In the last two years, Byju’s has laid off at least 10,000 employees. The company is grappling with dwindling capital and legal wrangles with investors and stakeholders. Currently, around 14,000 employees are on the payroll of Byju’s Indian unit.
