Tesla Opens First Supercharger Station in Gurugram, Offering 250 kW Peak Speed
Tesla, one of the leading electric vehicle (EV) companies, has expanded its charging infrastructure in India. The company has launched its first charging station in Gurugram. Recently, billionaire Elon Musk’s company also inaugurated a Tesla Center in Gurugram. In July of this year, the company opened its first showroom in Mumbai.
Tesla’s new charging station features four V4 Superchargers with a peak speed of 250 kW. It also includes three 11 kW Destination Chargers. This will allow Tesla Model Y vehicles to be charged for approximately 275 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. Tesla EV customers can access charging information through the company’s app. Tesla is also preparing to offer this charging facility in other major cities such as Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Jaipur. Last month, the company opened its first full-fledged center in Gurugram. With this, the company aims to increase its volume and retail presence in the country. This center provides services such as sales, delivery, customer service, and support.
Currently, only the Tesla Model Y is available in India. This electric SUV is offered in two variants: Rear-Wheel Drive and Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive. The starting price of the Model Y is ₹59.89 lakh, while the Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant is priced at ₹67.89 lakh. However, Tesla has received a lukewarm response from customers in India. One major reason for this is the high price of its EVs.
Last month, the company sold only 48 units of the Model Y. However, this represents a 20 percent growth compared to October, when the company sold 40 units. In comparison, VinFast, which recently started its business in the country, has had a better start. According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), VinFast sold 291 units last month. This Vietnamese company has a factory in Tamil Nadu. Tesla is importing its Model Y. India is Tesla’s 50th international market. The company’s sales are declining in major markets like China. It is facing tough competition from Chinese EV maker BYD in the international market.
