Kotak International Launches New Defence ETF; Offers Investment Opportunities in These Companies
Kotak International—the international investment arm of the Kotak Mahindra Group—has ventured into the Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) segment with the launch of the new Kotak Indo-Pacific Defence UCITS ETF. This fund is being offered through Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Singapore. The company developed this ETF in partnership with HANetf, a leading European white-label UCITS ETF and ETC platform. This marks Kotak International’s first UCITS ETF, and its objective is to provide international investors with unique and high-conviction investment themes.
Focus on Growing Investment in the Defence Sector
The Kotak Indo-Pacific Defence UCITS ETF will focus on opportunities linked to the rapidly growing defence expenditure within the Indo-Pacific region. Through this ETF, investors will gain the opportunity to invest in defence companies across several Asia-Pacific nations, including India. These nations include South Korea, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Taiwan. The company states that domestic defence firms in these countries stand to benefit significantly from expanding defence budgets and policies aimed at boosting local production.
India Holds a Significant Share in the ETF
Indian companies account for approximately 29.8% of the index underlying this ETF. This reflects India’s growing strategic and industrial significance within the Indo-Pacific region. Shyam Kumar, President of Kotak International, stated that this launch represents a significant milestone for the company. He added that by incorporating this ETF into its global product portfolio, the company aims to offer international investors new and robust investment opportunities. According to him, the defence sector has now become strategically critical; this ETF will not only capitalize on this emerging theme but also bolster the company’s international investment strategy.
