Apple’s Major ‘Green Investment’ in India: Commits ₹100 Crore for Renewable Energy Infrastructure

American tech giant and iPhone manufacturer Apple has taken a significant strategic step within India’s clean energy sector. To accelerate the achievement of its comprehensive sustainability and carbon neutrality goals, the company has officially announced an investment of ₹100 crore toward the development of renewable energy infrastructure in India. This investment is being hailed as a major effort aimed at environmental conservation and strengthening the green supply chain within the country.

Building 150 MW Capacity in Partnership with CleanMax

Apple has decided to undertake this significant investment in collaboration with CleanMax, one of India’s leading renewable energy developers. Under this partnership, new renewable energy capacity exceeding 150 megawatts (MW) will be established across the country.

Assessing the impact of this new energy capacity, Apple noted that the energy generated would be sufficient to power approximately 150,000 Indian households annually. The company’s vision does not end there; it also plans to further expand this capacity in the coming years.

Goals and Strategic Focus

2030 Carbon Neutrality Goal: The primary objective of this initiative is to integrate renewable energy into Apple’s supply chain operations in India. Through this effort, the company is making strong strides toward its goal of making its entire global footprint 100% carbon neutral by the year 2030.

Previous Partnerships: This is not the first time Apple has taken steps toward green energy. Previously, the U.S.-based company had partnered with CleanMax on ‘rooftop solar projects’ to power its offices and retail stores in India using 100% clean energy. The Company’s Commitment to the Environment

Commenting on this investment, Sarah Chandler, Apple’s Vice President of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, stated, “At Apple, our commitment to the environment is not merely a responsibility; it is also a driving force for innovation across the entire company and around the world.” She emphasized, “We are proud to invest in India’s clean energy economy and to expand our efforts to protect the country’s precious natural resources.”

Emphasis on Plastic Pollution and Green Entrepreneurship

In addition to direct investments in energy infrastructure, Apple has also announced new partnerships focused on reducing plastic pollution and fostering green entrepreneurship in India.

Partnership with WWF-India: Apple has joined forces with WWF-India to prevent plastic leakage into ecosystems and to improve materials recovery. Under this partnership, efforts will be directed toward recycling and waste management.

Support for Acumen: To accelerate early-stage green enterprises, Apple has also partnered with Acumen. Through this initiative, grants and mentorship support will be provided to small and emerging entrepreneurs working in sectors such as waste management, regenerative agriculture, and circular economy solutions.

This ₹100 crore investment by Apple—along with its various strategic partnerships—serves as a testament to the fact that global companies now view India not merely as a vast market, but are also becoming key stakeholders in the country’s journey toward clean energy and sustainability. These initiatives for environmental protection and green entrepreneurship will steer the Indian supply chain toward a new green horizon.
