Toyota Bets Big on India: To Set Up New SUV Plant in Maharashtra
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced plans to establish another vehicle manufacturing plant in India. The company will set up this new facility in the Bidkin Industrial Area of Maharashtra. Production at this plant is expected to commence in 2029.
The company states that the objective behind this new plant is to further strengthen its position within the Indian market. Additionally, vehicles manufactured at this facility will be exported to other countries alongside serving the domestic Indian market.
This new investment by Toyota could prove to be a significant milestone for India’s automobile sector. It will not only boost production capacity but also reinforce employment opportunities and the local supply chain.
New SUV Models to be Produced
Toyota aims to manufacture 100,000 vehicles annually at the new plant. Operations such as stamping, welding, painting, and assembly will be carried out at this facility. The company has confirmed that a new SUV model will be produced at this plant. Furthermore, this project is expected to generate employment for approximately 2,800 people.
Focus on Boosting Production in India
Toyota notes that its business operations in India have consistently strengthened, and the company intends to expand its production capacity in anticipation of future demand. The company’s goal is to deliver vehicles to customers swiftly, in alignment with evolving market needs and trends. Toyota also stated that, through collaboration with various partners, this new plant will contribute to the growth of India’s automobile sector.
Two Major Plants Already Operational in India
Toyota currently operates two manufacturing plants in India. Both of these facilities are located in Bidadi, Karnataka. One of these plants has a production capacity of 132,000 units and manufactures models such as the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender. The second plant has a production capacity of 210,000 units and produces models such as the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux. Additionally, the company sells models such as the Glanza, Rumion, and Urban Cruiser Taisor in the Indian market, while certain models like the Vellfire and LC 300 are fully imported.
