Uber to Soar with Adani: Key Meeting Held in Ahmedabad; Company’s First Data Center to be Built in India
Cab service provider Uber is set to establish its first data center in India in collaboration with the Adani Group. This move is driven by the country’s emergence as a major innovation hub for the company. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi shared this information on Wednesday.
Sharing details about the development following a meeting with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, the Uber CEO stated that India is rapidly becoming a leading innovation hub for global mobility platforms. In a post on the social media platform X, he remarked, “It was great meeting Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad this morning and having the opportunity to further strengthen our existing partnership with the Adani Group.”
How Will Uber Benefit?
The proposed data center is expected to support Uber’s expanding technology and innovation operations within India.
India has evolved into a critical market for the company—not only in terms of mobility services but also in engineering and product development.
The company’s CEO noted that this investment, slated for completion by the end of this year, will enable them to drive large-scale development for the global market directly from India.
Adani Group Expanding Rapidly
The announcement of this latest partnership comes at a time when the Adani Group is rapidly expanding its digital infrastructure footprint across India. Last month, AdaniConneX—the Adani Group’s joint venture data center company with EdgeConneX—announced plans to develop a 1 GW AI-ready data center platform in Visakhapatnam.
According to an official statement released on April 28, the Adani Group is set to invest approximately $10 billion in this ambitious project. With Google serving as the infrastructure partner for this initiative, AdaniConneX is developing scalable, AI-ready data center infrastructure, underpinned by a robust and integrated energy ecosystem.
Ambani Also in the Race
Mukesh Ambani has also joined the race within the data center sector. His company, Reliance Industries (RIL), is set to establish India’s largest data center cluster in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Mukesh Ambani’s company will invest ₹1.6 lakh crore (over $17 billion) in this project. This project will have a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts and is considered to be the largest data center project in India to date.
