Trump Renames AI to ‘Super Intelligence’: Termed it so last week in Xi Jinping’s presence; calls SI something beyond the internet
US President Trump met with CEOs of major tech companies at the White House on Tuesday. During the meeting, CEOs from Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, xAI, and Nvidia signed an agreement regarding AI safety and oversight.
Trump also signed an executive order renaming Artificial Intelligence (AI) to “Super Intelligence” (SI). He stated that labeling AI as “artificial” (or man-made) is inappropriate. According to him, this technology is even more significant than the internet.
Trump remarked that the race for AI is now between the US and China, and the US is currently leading the competition. He had first referred to AI as “Super Intelligence” (SI) at the UN General Assembly last week.
The companies agreed to the following four points:
1. Self-assessment of AI systems: Companies will verify for themselves whether their AI models comply with established safety standards.
2. Oversight by a dedicated team: Companies will form a team to monitor AI systems and check for any potential risks or irregularities.
3. External expert reviews: Companies will have their AI models evaluated by external experts or independent organizations.
4. Board oversight: An independent committee of the company’s board will review these assessment reports and bear the responsibility of addressing any issues that arise.
Trump urges tech companies to involve locals in data center construction
The meeting also covered the data centers and other infrastructure essential for AI. Trump stated that tech companies must collaborate with local communities in the cities and towns where data centers are to be built.
He emphasized that companies should support the residents of these areas. This could also include providing financial support for schools, teachers, and other local needs.
According to Trump, companies should partner with the local community before building data centers so that local residents can also benefit from these projects.
Why are data centers so important for AI?
Thousands upon thousands of powerful computers work behind the AI systems we interact with. These are housed in large data centers. Therefore, as the use of AI grows, the need for data centers will also increase.
