TATA Group will create a relief trust of ₹500 crores, Air India plane crash victims will get help

TATA Group on announced the creation of a trust of ₹500 crores to help the victims of the Air India plane crash. Its name will be AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust. Through this, the victims will get immediate and long-term support. According to PTI news, Tata Sons and Tata Trust have committed ₹250-₹250 crores for this trust. This trust has been registered as a public charitable trust in Mumbai. Last month, 260 people lost their lives in this accident in Ahmedabad.

Who will get help

According to the news, Tata Sons said in a statement that this trust will provide immediate and long-term assistance to the dependents of the deceased, injured persons and all those directly or indirectly affected by this accident. Apart from this, the trust will also provide assistance to the first responders, medical and disaster relief workers, social workers and government employees who made significant contributions and served after the accident.

How will the trust help?

The AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust will be run by a 5-member Board of Trustees. Former Tata official S Padmanabhan and Tata Sons General Counsel Siddharth Sharma have been appointed as trustees. The remaining three trustees will be appointed soon. The main objective of the trust is to provide an ex-gratia of ₹ 1 crore to the families of those who died in the accident, provide medical assistance to the seriously injured, and assist in the reconstruction of the damaged hostel infrastructure of B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad.
