AI will run without the internet! India’s Sarvam AI launches Sarvam Edge, which will work offline on phones and laptops.
Indian AI company Sarvam AI has introduced a new on-device artificial intelligence platform called Sarvam Edge. According to the company, this system runs directly on smartphones and laptops and does not require a cloud server or internet connection. Sarvam AI states that its goal is to make AI faster, more private, and easily usable on everyday devices.
According to the company, Sarvam Edge is based on the idea that today’s modern devices have enough computing power to handle advanced models locally. Shifting inference to the device eliminates network delays, prevents problems with poor connectivity, and keeps user data completely offline. This is claimed to strengthen data privacy.
Sarvam AI includes multilingual speech recognition, speech synthesis, and translation models specifically designed for edge deployment. The platform claims that a single speech recognition model supports 10 major Indian languages and comes with automatic language detection, eliminating the need for user language selection.
The text-to-speech system also works in these languages and is based on a compact unified model. The translation system supports 11 languages, including English, and bidirectional translation is reportedly possible in 110 language pairs. The company states that all these features work without cloud connectivity.
According to Sarvam AI, local processing eliminates per-query costs and maintains stable performance even in weak network areas. The company claims that real-time transcription can process faster than live audio, while translation provides almost instant results, enabling use in interactive applications.
The company also stated that Sarvam Edge models are optimized for existing mobile processors and laptop hardware, providing full offline AI functionality without specialized hardware or large storage requirements. Sarvam AI believes that this platform can open up new use cases for voice-driven apps, real-time translation tools, assistive technology and applications in sectors such as education, finance and productivity.
