Major Relief for MSMEs and Airlines: Government Launches Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme
The Central Government has approved the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS)—backed by a provision of ₹18,100 crore—to assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), airlines, and other companies in navigating the challenges arising from the conflict in West Asia. According to a report by PTI, the primary objective of this scheme is to address the working capital requirements of the affected sectors. Through this scheme, which was approved during a meeting of the Union Cabinet, an additional credit flow of up to ₹2.55 lakh crore is expected to be facilitated.
Government Initiative to Alleviate Pressure
Briefing the media on the Cabinet’s decisions, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that this scheme has been introduced to alleviate the pressure exerted on the MSME and airline sectors due to the conflict in West Asia. An official government statement noted that the proposed credit guarantee scheme will assist businesses in sustaining their operations, safeguarding employment, maintaining supply chains, and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of domestic production. By providing timely liquidity, the initiative will not only prevent job losses but also uphold the overall resilience of the economic ecosystem.
