A New Industrial Revolution Begins in India; Major Boom Expected Across 6 Sectors Including Space and Semiconductors: Jefferies

India’s growth story is no longer confined to just IT services, banking, and consumption. In a report dated September 8, 2026, global brokerage firm Jefferies termed this shift “India’s New Industrial Revolution.” According to Jefferies, six sectors—space, semiconductors, data centers, electronics, solar manufacturing, and aerospace—could transform the landscape of the Indian economy over the next few years.

Simply put, a significant portion of the high-tech products and critical components for which India previously relied on other countries will now be manufactured domestically. This will lead to the establishment of new factories and job creation, reduce dependence on imports, and provide Indian companies with the opportunity to carve out a niche in the global market.

What is driving this shift?

Jefferies identifies three key factors behind this transformation: India’s vast domestic market, increasing private sector participation, and government policy support. The government has opened the space sector to private companies. Data centers are receiving tax relief, and incentive schemes are being implemented for semiconductor, electronics, and solar manufacturing.

“Incentives” refer to financial assistance provided by the government to companies for setting up factories and ramping up production. Meanwhile, “localization” entails manufacturing the maximum possible number of a product’s parts and components within India.

Fivefold Growth in the Space Economy

India is among the select few nations globally with the capability to launch its own satellites and rockets. According to Jefferies, India’s space economy could grow nearly fivefold between 2023 and 2030, reaching a valuation of $40–$45 billion.

Private companies such as Skyroot, Pixxel, and Agnikul are making rapid strides in this sector. Skyroot has taken steps towards orbital launches. Pixxel is working on high-resolution Earth observation satellites. Agnikul has developed a 3D-printed rocket engine. Significant business opportunities could emerge in the future in sectors such as satellites, launch services, communications, and space data.

India’s semiconductor journey: From policy to production

Semiconductors are the tiny chips that serve as the “brains” of mobile phones, cars, computers, medical equipment, and almost every modern electronic product. According to Jefferies, India’s semiconductor sector has attracted investments worth approximately $20 billion. A chip fabrication plant (chip fab) is currently under construction in the country, and several OSAT projects are nearing the production stage.

OSAT stands for facilities dedicated to the assembly, testing, and packaging of chips. According to Jefferies, an additional incentive scheme worth around $13 billion could further strengthen this sector. Companies involved in chip design, testing, electronic components, and manufacturing stand to benefit from this.
