Layoffs 2026: Meta Deals Another Blow to Employees; 200 Jobs Now at Risk!
Meta is once again preparing to lay off employees. The company is reportedly gearing up to let go of approximately 200 workers in Silicon Valley. A report indicates that, according to a filing submitted to California’s Employment Development Department, 124 positions in Burlingame and 74 positions in Sunnyvale are slated for elimination. These layoffs could take effect by the end of May and are expected to impact several of the company’s departments.
A report by ET CIO states that Meta is laying off 200 employees in California. This involves the elimination of 124 positions at one location and 74 at another. These layoffs follow a round of cuts implemented in late March, which affected teams across recruiting, sales, operations, and the Reality Labs division.
Prior to this, in January 2026, Meta laid off over 1,000 employees—or approximately 10 percent of the workforce—within its Reality Labs division. Some employees are being offered opportunities for other roles within the company, although accepting such offers may require them to relocate.
A report published in early March also suggested that Meta could reduce its total workforce by up to 20 percent, although a final decision on this matter has not yet been reached. If this were to happen, it would mark the largest round of layoffs since 2022–2023, when the company let go of approximately 11,000 employees.
However, amidst these layoffs, Meta is also actively recruiting for certain key roles. The same report notes that by the end of 2025, the company had a headcount of approximately 79,000 employees—a 6 percent increase compared to the previous year. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously stated that the company is focusing on boosting efficiency through the use of AI tools while simultaneously reducing team sizes.
