Gucci to Launch AI Smart Glasses in Collaboration with Google
Google and Gucci have partnered to develop a new line of smart glasses. The Kering-owned brand is expected to launch these smart glasses—developed in collaboration with Google—by next year. Luca De Meo, the company’s CEO, shared this information. This marks the first instance of a luxury brand venturing into the realm of AI-powered smart glasses. Competition within the smart glasses segment is intensifying day by day.
Google and Gucci’s AI-powered smart glasses could soon become available to the market. The company is preparing to introduce these novel and unique smart glasses by 2027. According to Reuters, this strategic move is aimed at competing with the Italian-French eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, which collaborates with Meta to produce AI-powered smart glasses under the Ray-Ban brand.
According to Reuters, De Meo also provided an indication regarding the launch timeline. When asked during a recent interview, he stated that the company would likely have introduced these smart glasses to the market by 2027. It is reported that De Meo aims to elevate Kering’s eyewear and jewelry division to new heights. This division currently accounts for a relatively small portion of the company’s total revenue. The company believes that this initiative will help insulate it from the impact of evolving trends in the fashion industry, while also allowing it to leverage the advantages of partnering with a tech titan like Google.
Kering had previously announced that it is working on a plan to more than double the company’s profit margins. Concurrently, its objective is to position the company within the same league as other major luxury brands operating in the sector. It now remains to be seen how much ground this partnership between Gucci and Google can gain within the smart glasses market.
