Zerodha Discontinues Zero1 Creator Program

The landscape of digital content and social media in India is currently undergoing rapid transformation. Amidst this shift, a prominent name in the industry—Zerodha—has decided to discontinue its Zero1 Network program. This initiative was designed for creators who aimed to educate the public on finance, health, and investments using simple, accessible language.

Zerodha had launched the Zero1 Network as a novel type of media platform. Its primary objective was to simplify complex subjects that the general public often perceives as difficult.

Within the realm of finance, topics such as the stock market, mutual funds, trading, savings, and investments were explained through video content.

According to reports, individuals associated with this network were informed several months ago that the program would be wound down by the end of March. However, the company has not publicly disclosed any specific major reason behind this decision.

Several popular personalities were associated with this platform. Notable names included Varun Mayya, Sonia Shenoy, and Revant Himatsingka, among others.

These creators possess a strong presence on social media and command a following of hundreds of thousands. Some creators have even reached subscriber counts exceeding one million.

Zerodha has stated that its current strategy involves operating in-house channels. The company intends to manage all its channels internally; while several are already operational, more are slated to launch. This approach ensures that the company retains complete control over its content, with the ultimate goal of bringing financial education to every household.

How did the Zero1 model function? Under this framework, creators received a monthly stipend. Additionally, the company provided comprehensive support services, including research assistance, scriptwriting aid, studio space, camera setups, editing, and video production facilities. In essence, creators could focus exclusively on content creation, while the platform handled all the necessary technical and logistical support.

A particularly distinctive feature of this model was that the company did not exercise direct editorial control over the content itself. The videos merely featured the “Zero1 by Zerodha” branding.

Creators were granted complete creative freedom in producing their content. For this very reason, many regarded it as an exemplary model for creator-centric platforms.
