Amazon India’s Major Investment: To Spend ₹2,800 Crore on Employee Welfare and Operations Network
Amazon India has announced that it will invest over ₹2,800 crore to strengthen the safety, health, and financial well-being of its employees across the country, as well as to expand its operations network. This investment by the company is part of its commitment to invest over $35 billion in India by 2030. In addition to business expansion, this investment will also focus on AI-based digitization, export growth, and job creation.
Company to Expand Welfare Programs Under ‘Project Aashray’
The company stated that it will expand its core and quick commerce networks to provide delivery services to customers within minutes, hours, and days. Amazon noted that, under ‘Project Aashray’ (Project Shelter), it will expand employee welfare programs, enhance medical and accident insurance coverage, and assist thousands of employees—along with over 200,000 community members—in accessing government social security schemes.
According to the company, this investment follows a ₹2,000 crore investment made in 2025, under which 17 new fulfillment centers, 6 sortation centers, and 75 last-mile delivery stations were launched across the country. In 2025, Amazon also launched its quick commerce service, ‘Amazon Now,’ which has since been expanded to include over 300 micro-fulfillment centers across major cities, thereby enabling faster and safer deliveries.
