Apple Becomes World’s Most Valuable Company, Surpassing Chipmaker NVIDIA

Apple, a major player in the premium smartphone market, has achieved the milestone of becoming the world’s most valuable company. The iPhone maker has overtaken chipmaker NVIDIA. NVIDIA had previously secured this top spot in June of last year by surpassing Microsoft; by October, its market value had even crossed the $5 trillion mark.

According to a media report, NVIDIA’s share price fell by approximately 5% on Monday, bringing its market value down to around $4.77 trillion. Investor concerns regarding heavy spending on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure have impacted the company’s stock price. Meanwhile, Apple’s shares rose by 1%, pushing the US technology company’s valuation to approximately $4.95 trillion. Apple is also set to announce its quarterly results this week.

NVIDIA’s share price has risen by 4% this year, whereas Apple’s stock has climbed by nearly 24%. Apple may soon launch a foldable smartphone, potentially named the “iPhone Ultra.” The market for foldable smartphones has grown rapidly in recent years, with South Korea’s Samsung holding the largest market share in this segment.

A recent report by Smart Analytics Global indicated that the next growth cycle in the international foldable smartphone market could begin soon. Shipments in this market are projected to increase by over 30% year-on-year in the current year, with Apple’s iPhone Ultra and Samsung’s new foldable smartphone series likely to play a significant role. Apple’s iPhone 18 series may also be launched soon. The company plans to ramp up foldable iPhone production to approximately 10 million units, up from an earlier estimate of 8 million units. The foldable iPhone could feature Apple’s upcoming chipset based on the 2nm process. The company’s iPhone 17 series, introduced last year, has received a positive response from customers.
