The Government of India may extend the deadline for licensing requirement for import of laptops, tablets and personal computers by another year. Two senior government officials have given this information. It will be a matter of great relief for big companies like Apple, Samsung and Lenovo.

On August 3, the government suddenly banned the import of unlicensed electronic equipment. Its objective was to prevent poor quality laptops, tablets and personal computers from entering the country and to promote domestic production. Due to this, big companies had to suffer huge losses.

After opposition from the industry, the government had extended the deadline for implementing this scheme by three months. According to sources, now the government has once extended the deadline for its implementation by one year. This means that laptops, tablets and personal computers will be able to be imported without a license until September next year.
