NHAI wants to make 25 national highways MLFF in the current financial year
This is a big step towards barrier-free tolling, which will make electronic toll collection possible without stopping through Fastag. Choryasi toll plaza in Gujarat will be the country’s first barrier-free toll plaza. Apart from this, an agreement has been signed with ICICI Bank to implement multi-lane free flow based toll system at Gharaunda Toll Plaza in Haryana located on NH-44. NHAI is planning to implement multi-lane free flow based toll system at about 25 National Highway toll plazas during the current financial year, for which the process of identifying toll plazas is underway.
The new tolling system will be more efficient, transparent and user-friendly
National Highways Authority of India Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav said that this agreement to implement multi-lane free flow tolling system is an important step in the development and modernization of tolling in the country. By leveraging technology, it will lay the foundation for a more efficient, transparent and user-friendly tolling ecosystem which will be in line with our vision of technology-driven transformation in National Highway operations and pave the way for its adoption across the country.
How will the MLFF system work
Multi-lane free flow tolling is a barrier-free tolling system that enables transactions by reading the Fastag and Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) by high-performance RFID readers and ANPR cameras. This enables non-stop toll collection without stopping vehicles at toll plazas, reducing congestion and travel time. Along with this, it increases fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. The implementation of multi-lane free flow will improve toll revenue collection and will also help in creating a smarter, faster and efficient national highway network across the country.
