Satellite internet will reach schools, hospitals, and remote areas in Gujarat, with the government and Starlink partnering.
The Gujarat government has taken a significant step towards strengthening satellite-based internet connectivity in the state. The government has signed a Letter of Intent with Starlink to provide high-speed internet to remote, border, and low-connectivity areas. This initiative is expected to increase access to digital services in areas where telecom infrastructure is currently limited. The state government believes this step will help advance Gujarat’s digital connectivity plans.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, speaking on X on Monday, announced that the Gujarat government has exchanged LoIs with Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX. He stated that this agreement will provide satellite internet services to areas currently lacking fast and reliable internet.
According to the Chief Minister, this initiative will provide high-speed satellite internet access to remote, border, tribal, and underserved areas. This is expected to accelerate the state’s digital connectivity mission and strategic digital initiatives. The government states that improved connectivity will also strengthen access to e-governance, common service centers, and other digital platforms.
The state government stated that this project will also impact public service delivery. The focus will be on improving digital outreach in education, healthcare, telemedicine, disaster management, and security systems. Additionally, the goal is to facilitate access to government services in tribal and aspirational districts.
The Chief Minister also stated that a joint working group will be formed with representatives from the Gujarat government and Starlink to effectively implement the LoI. According to the government, this initiative will contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and promote seamless digital connectivity in the state.
