Adani Ports Secures Contract for Argentina’s First LNG Export Project; 10-Year Deal
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) announced that it has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. With this achievement, the company has entered the South American market and further strengthened its presence in the international marine services sector. This move will also bolster the growing energy ties between India and Argentina.
Contract Secured via Consortium
India’s largest integrated transport utility company stated that the contract was awarded to its step-down subsidiary, Adani Harbour International FZCO, through a consortium formed with Argentina’s Meridian Group. The contract follows a global competitive bidding process conducted by Southern Energy SA.
Projected Annual LNG Production of 2.45 Million Tonnes
The consortium comprising the Adani Group and Meridian Group will provide marine services for the Southern Energy FLNG project. The project entails an investment commitment of approximately $70 million. The first phase of the project is expected to produce 2.45 million tonnes (MT) of LNG annually, equivalent to about 28 LNG cargoes. Upon completion, it will become Argentina’s first operational LNG export project.
Extensive Experience Operating in Complex Marine Environments
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, said, “This project demonstrates our growing capability to support major energy infrastructure projects across various regions of the world.” He noted that the company operates marine services in 12 countries and possesses a robust network of marine assets supporting ports, LNG terminals, national oil companies, refineries, and offshore facilities. This has provided the company with extensive experience in operating within complex marine environments. It further stated that, in collaboration with local partners, the company is helping to develop a reliable maritime ecosystem that will create new energy trade corridors and strengthen long-term supply security. Under the agreement, the consortium will provide comprehensive maritime services—including tugboat operations, offshore logistics, supply support, and crew transfer services—for LNG carrier vessels.
Argentina is rapidly emerging as a major LNG supplier and has entered into agreements to export up to 10 million tonnes of LNG annually to India starting in 2027. Southern Energy’s FLNG project will play a pivotal role in connecting global demand centers with Argentina’s growing LNG supply.
According to the company, four state-of-the-art tugboats, an anchor-handling tug supply vessel, and a crew boat will be deployed for the project’s operations to ensure the smooth execution of maritime services.
