Vodafone Idea: Vodafone Idea orders 200 crores to Chinese company! Matter brought to the notice of NSCS.

Telecom operator Vodafone Idea’s recent deal may come under controversy. It is being claimed that the telecom company has given orders worth about 200 crores related to the network to the Chinese company. The name of the company is being told as ZTE. Quoting sources related to the matter, news agency PTI said that the telecom company has placed these orders for broadband network equipment. The orders have been placed for Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh circles.

Sources said that the matter has been brought to the notice of the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). NSCS manages the Trusted Telecom Portal. Only through this it gives the green signal to the approved telecom gears. However, there has been no comment from Vodafone Idea in the matter so far.

Equipment has to be procured from trusted sources only

Earlier on 16 December 2020, some important guidelines were issued by the Committee on Security of the Cabinet. The committee had also approved the National Security Directive regarding the telecom sector. According to this, telecom companies or service providers will have to purchase equipment from trusted sources only.

Work is done only through reliable telecom portal
Under the provisions of this Directive, the Government declares a list of reliable sources and products for the telecommunication network in the country. All the work related to this is done through reliable telecom portal only. The list of credible sources and products is decided based on the recommendations of a committee headed by the Deputy National Security Advisor.
