Reliance will build 500 compressed biogas plants in Andhra Pradesh with Rs 65,000 crore, will create 2,50,000 jobs
Reliance Industries has said that it will invest Rs 65,000 crore in setting up 500 ‘Compressed Biogas’ plants in Andhra Pradesh. The foundation stone of the first of these plants was laid on Wednesday. The company said in a statement that Andhra Pradesh Information Technology and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone of the first Reliance Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at Kanigiri in the state’s Prakasham district. Reliance said, “This project is being developed with a capital investment of Rs 139 crore. This is the first plant towards setting up 500 plants with a total capital expenditure of Rs 65,000 crore for Andhra Pradesh. “
Farmers’ income will increase
The plant will be developed with new technology and will use Napier i.e. long grass (elephant grass) grown on barren and waste land to produce biogas. The project will result in the creation of significant livelihood opportunities in the rural economy through payment of lease revenue to farmers and a fixed price for the grass they grow.
2,50,000 jobs will be created
The company said, “Reliance has embarked on an important journey to set up an integrated CBG center in Andhra Pradesh. About five lakh acres of barren and waste land in Prakasam, Anantapur, Chittoor and Kadapa will be used for this purpose.” Once all the plants are fully operational, they will produce 40 lakh tonnes of green, clean CBG and 11 lakh tonnes of organic fertilizer annually. The initiative is expected to create 2,50,000 jobs for rural youth. Reliance Executive Director PMS Prasad said, “We see this project as much more than just energy generation. It will open up avenues for people’s progress and boost local economies. It will also advance Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy ambitions.”
