Airtel’s Customer Base Crosses 650 Million! Becomes the World’s Second-Largest Telecom Company

Bharti Airtel has emerged as the world’s second-largest telecommunications company. Airtel’s subscriber count has surpassed the 650-million mark, a milestone that has propelled the company to the position of the second-largest telecom operator globally. The company is renowned for its services across India and Africa. Marking this significant achievement, Gopal Vittal, the company’s Vice Chairman, highlighted these accomplishments. Citing data released by GSMA Intelligence, the company noted that Airtel now possesses the world’s second-largest mobile subscriber base.

Bharti Airtel has officially become the world’s second-largest telecommunications company. The number of Airtel’s mobile subscribers has exceeded 650 million. Citing figures released by GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications) Intelligence, Airtel announced this achievement in an official press release. The company stated that, based on its mobile subscriber base, it now ranks as the second-largest telecom company in the world.

Speaking on this occasion, Airtel’s Executive Vice Chairman, Gopal Vittal, said, “We will strive to further elevate the standards of innovation, reliability, and service experience, ensuring that every interaction with a customer becomes an opportunity to earn their trust and deliver value.” These subscriber figures are based on data available as of March 31.

According to Airtel, it serves over 368 million mobile customers in India. Additionally, the company has a subscriber base of over 179 million across 14 African nations. The company also highlighted that it was the first operator to launch 5G Plus services. It provides high-speed internet services to over 13 million households, while delivering digital TV services to 15 million homes. The company’s enterprise arm, Airtel Business, manages mission-critical infrastructure, including cybersecurity, cloud services, IoT, and SD-WAN solutions. Furthermore, the company has announced plans to expand into the Non-Banking Financial Services (NBFC) sector.
