Reliance Jio and Bank of Baroda Join Hands; ‘bob World Lite’ App Launched on Feature Phones

With the aim of extending digital banking to every corner of the country, Reliance Jio and Bank of Baroda have forged a new partnership. Together, the two companies have launched ‘bob World Lite’—a mobile banking app designed specifically for feature phone users—which will be available on the JioPhone Prima 4G.

This initiative aligns with the vision of the Government of India and the RBI regarding digital financial inclusion, the objective of which is to extend digital banking services to users beyond the smartphone ecosystem.

A Dedicated App for Feature Phone Users

‘bob World Lite’ has been designed specifically with feature phone users in mind. The app is built on a low-bandwidth and lightweight architecture, enabling it to function seamlessly even on keypad phones. Through this app, users will be able to avail themselves of features such as UPI Scan & Pay, money transfers, bill payments, mobile recharges, and profile management.

App to Come Pre-loaded on JioPhones

This app will come pre-installed on the JioPhone Prima 4G, allowing users to access it directly from the home screen. Existing users can also download it from the JioStore. This platform is not limited solely to Bank of Baroda customers; customers of other banks can also utilize the service through a simple self-onboarding process.

Boosting Digital Inclusion

Sunil Dutt, President of Reliance Jio, stated that the company’s goal is to deliver affordable digital services to every Indian, and this partnership represents a significant step in that direction. Meanwhile, Debadatta Chand, MD and CEO of Bank of Baroda, remarked that this initiative will help bridge the digital divide and provide feature phone users with simple, secure banking facilities. Leveraging Jio’s extensive network and Bank of Baroda’s strong presence, this initiative has the potential to rapidly expand the reach of digital banking across the country, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
