This company of Gautam Adani announced the pilot project of green hydrogen blending, it will start from this city.

New Delhi: Adani Total Gas Ltd has started experimental blending of green hydrogen into natural gas sold as fuel for domestic cooking and industry. The joint venture company of industrialist Gautam Adani’s Adani Group and French energy company Total Energies said in a statement that the blending of green hydrogen with gas will be gradually increased to 8 percent. “As part of the project, ATGL will use the latest technologies to blend green hydrogen (GH2) with natural gas for over 4,000 residential and commercial customers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat,” it said.

Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy by splitting water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen gas through the process of ‘electrolysis’. Compared to burning gas, hydrogen mixture has less carbon content but has the same heating capacity.

“The pilot project is expected to be operational by the first quarter of FY 2024-25 (April, 2024 to March, 2025) and depending on regulatory approvals, the percentage of green hydrogen in the mix will gradually increase to 8 percent or More than that will be done.”

Suresh P Mangalani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ATGL, said, “We are committed to building environmentally sustainable operations. This project will build the infrastructure in the country to establish India as an energy independent country by the year 2047. This reflects our dedication to construction. This project will make a significant contribution to reducing our carbon emissions.”

ATGL has licenses to retail CNG for vehicles, piped cooking gas for households and pipeline gas for industries in 38 geographical areas (GAs).

The company has a complete city gas distribution network in Ahmedabad and Vadodara in Gujarat, Faridabad in Haryana and Khurja in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. Further, development of Allahabad, Chandigarh, Ernakulam, Panipat, Daman, Dharwad and Udham Singh Nagar gas distribution has been entrusted to a consortium of Adani Total Gas Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
