AI: Microsoft will train 20 lakh Indians for jobs in the field of AI, new program announced

Microsoft has announced the launch of Advantage India program to train 20 lakh youth of India for jobs in the field of AI. The program which will run till 2025 will be run with the Union Skill Development Ministry. Government departments, private companies and non-government organizations will be involved in the training.

Punit Chandhok, President, Microsoft, India and South Asia, said that the Advantage India initiative is an important step towards democratizing access to AI skills across the country. Under this program, basic and advanced training in AI will be given to 5,00,000 students and job seekers in vocational education institutions and training centers in rural areas.

One lakh girl students will get training

AI technical skills training will be provided to 1,00,000 girl students through 5,000 trainers in higher education institutions in Tier 2 and 3 cities. Additionally, 4,00,000 students in schools in remote and tribal areas will be made aware about responsible use of AI and AI-enabled careers, so that they can become the next generation AI innovators.

Civil service officers will also participate

Microsoft will partner with India’s National Program for Civil Services Capacity Building to provide essential training in generative AI to 2,50,000 government officials and enhance the use of AI in their functioning.

Voice based AI tool will be developed

Chandhok said that in the last three years, Microsoft has provided relevant technology solutions to more than 5,000 non-profit organizations in India. Microsoft will develop a generative AI tool based on voice with Indian startup Sarvam AI.
